4.0 out of 5 stars cleans to the pavement, light enough to store in basement, January 12, 2011

My main requirement was something that was light enough that I could store it in the basement via bulkhead. That's worked well for this device. The thrower also cleans right down to the pavement due to it's rubber flappers, something the metal augers cannot do. The housing has a special, small seperate peice that can be removed to access the carb (the part most likely to need maintenance). I'm on my 2nd winter now, and the unit has required no maintenance at all. We had a 20" snowfall today, and that presented some problems for a thrower of a smaller size, like this one. I had to "ride" the thrower up on the top layer of snow and then return for a second pass to clear the lower level, but it commpleted the job nonetheless.

I'm updating the review today; prior paragraph didn't convey just how much I love this thing! It works so well, even though it's only a single stage. Never clogs, always throws.

[UPDATE] 12/2011: I'm still really happy w/ this thrower, but...Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Good snowblower, March 9, 2011

I bought this snowblower [but with the electric start option] just before the blizzard of 2011. Works great. Of course, when the snow got over 10" deep, I had to first undercut it and then let the overhang collapse and then blow that. It throws about 15' with dry snow and about 10' when wet. I don't normally use the electric start option since it starts on two pulls, but it's nice to have that as a back up.

I was reluctant to buy a snowblower because of the heavy weight, lack of room in garage, and the difficulty of starting a two cycle engine. But this snowblower only weighs 75 lb, folds up easily in a small area, and starts with no problem.

I'm not sure why the negative reviews. It may be just damage during shipping? But why the people wouldn't just send it back is a mystery to me. Anyway, its a fine machine. I've used it for about 6-8 times over the last two months.

1.0 out of 5 stars won't start, February 5, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Toro Power Clear 210R Part 38587
Had to order online because no snowblowers available anywhere. Arrived quickly, but ridiculously cheap plastic choke lever broke as it was coming out of the box. Using my finger, I was able to open and close the choke, but not hold it in place. No matter what, I could not get the machine to start. Almost, but not quite. Followed every instruction, called Dad for lessons on small engines, waited 24 hours in case it was flooded, but nothing. Finally a neighbor (much taller and stronger them me) got it going after about 25 really hard pulls. Worked great for 25 feet, but then as the choke wouldn't stay open, it died and I haven't been able to get it started since. Even without the choke lever breaking, this is supposed to start within 1-2 tries. I can't mail it back, and haven't been able to find a local shop that will honor Toro's warranty. I recommend buying somewhere local so it can be returned easily if it doesn't start. I may have wasted $600.
