This review is from: Roof Melt, 60 Tablets (Misc.)
Just buy some calcium chloride (AutoZone, some home improvement stores), put it in women's nylons...... throw the tube on the roof and it'll melt to the shingles...making a drainage trough for the troublesome ice dams. Never use rock salt, etc.

Here's how it works,

This review is from: Roof Melt, 60 Tablets (Misc.)
Roof melt does not melt your ice dam away. It allows the water comming down the roof to disolve the tablet and melt a channel between the dam and the roof allowing the water to escape. The product is made from Calcium Chloride. Any ice Calcium Chloride comes in contact with will melt if the temperature is above -20F or so. The tablets do disolve so the process will end when they disapear.
Nylon stockings filled with similar products will do the same thing. Water passes through the nylon which holds a concentrated amount of ice melting product from washing away. Works well. Downside is you need a ladder to put them up and you have to retrieve the nylons after the winter is over. Hope this helps some folks out.

Don't waste your money!,

I hoped that this would be the easy answer to our roof dam issues....it was NOT!!!! This did not seem to be doing anything as far as melting the snow/ice...so I put one on in the snow on the ground and left it to see what would happen. What happened?? NOTHING. Please...save your money and put it towards a roof rake.
Learn from my mistake.
I hope this helps someone.
