Amazon had the best price (overall) on this item. It went together in 10 minutes. It is VERY lightweight. All of this might be good and it might work like a charm and last forever. BUT...Earthway is cleaning up on this spreader as no way in hell it costs over $50 to make--if that. A "commercial" spreader? Hoo Haa! I'd hate to see their "regular" one. A 3-year old could push this sucker. My roots tend towards HEFT equalling quality in many products, thus this doesn't compute.
But then my old TV weighed 80 pounds and my new, improved, and larger one weighs 30. In sum, this seems too lightweight to be around long, but proof will be in the pudding. My guess is that 4 stars will end up being too high a rating.
November 2010 update. Has worked like a charm to spread salt, but alas its life span is 3 years due to corrosion of its metal parts.

My boss had been looking for this type of spreader for ice melting products. This model is perfect for anyone that deals with the winter weather and all of the joys that come with the season.

I have the well-reviewed Earthway 2150 (well the John Deere version anyways) spreader for fertilizer but wanted the 2130 for pelletized products that are hard to flow through the 2150 because of the size. I decided on the 2130 because of the more robust frame and larger wheels which makes for a substantial improvement over the similar "high output" 2040PiPlus spreader. Moreover, the 2130 has an adjustable handle and heavy duty gearbox. Both have the same 65lb poly hopper and metal rod control lever. This is NOT a spreader for conventional fertilizer. It is made for salt, sand, pellets, etc. I only tested this with pine pellets. It works great! Spread is very uniform and operation is relatively smooth. THe frame is not as well contructed as my 2150 but it is close. The powder coating is also not as good as on my 2150 but acceptable. Not sure how long this will last with salt use but have to believe it will take a beating since it is not stainless steel.
