But that exception was a biggie and worth a 2 star knockoff... I was about 1/2 way thru my first salting of the sidewalk when it started jamming. The flat end of the spinner gear teeth were not always going directly into the holes of the drive gear, but rather occasionally hitting the edge of the opening and the unit just stops dead in its tracks and you get a handle to the stomach. All of those pieces came pre-assembled and are not very adjustable. My first attempt at fixing it was calling them to ask for suggestions. I called them repeatedly over the course of two weeks and finally got a call back. His reponse was that the set screw at the base of the 6 tooth gear assembly needs adjusting. Made sense during the phone call, but as I took a look in more depth today, not so much. There is no set screw there, just a long coil pin thru...Read more 9 of 9 people found the following review helpful: By Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Either the plastic tires dont grip, or if you are lucky enough to find a local spreader with pneumatic tires it will rust apart in one season. Finally decided to buy a better spreader, and found this model.
It arrived in 1 box with some holes in it but everything was inside and in perfect condition. It assembled in about 30 minutes. Took it outside and it would barely move, and then lock up with wheels refusing to turn. Took about an hour to determine that a washer was in the wrong location from the factory, enabling a disc on the axle that mates with a sprocket on the spinner to wobble and bind. I put the washer in the right place, everything is snug and now works fine. Also had to tighten the bolts for the spreader adjustment flaps which were real loose from the factory. The tires are real heavy duty. The bolts and such are all stainless steel. The axle disc is molded aluminum...Read more 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful: This review is from: Buyers SaltDogg WB100B 1.5 Cubic Foot/100-Pound Capacity Poly Walk Behind Snow Broadcast Spreader With Carbon Steel Frame & 13-Inch Pneumatic Tires (Lawn & Patio) OK, Thank god for Amazon being such a great company. I ordered this item during the peak of a nasty winter in New Hampshire, yes I saw there were other spreaders costing much more but felt like this would be a good deal. Just the other day I sent back the second spreader to Amazon due to poor performance. I maintain several properties around where I live and needed a spreader to speed up the application of salt and sand. Let me say this product has some major issues to work out before its ready to be used by any professional. First of all, if you put semi wet sand in this spreader, forget it!! It will bind up and not spread, now if you put dry, fine sand in it it will work good for a few minutes but then it will bind up, and the one wheel that you need to turn to spread the sand will not move an inch. I thought i must have purchased a defective model so I sent it back, Amazon quickly sent a new one to me... same mess as before. If your looking for a salt spreader for very light...Read more |
